Clean Up - Ipanema
A iniciativa “Clean Up Ipanema” demonstra que a escola está desenvolvendo na prática a missão de trabalhar a educação de nossas crianças. É importante formar uma nova geração de cidadãos conscientes em nossos países latino-americanos e, apropriar-se do tema "lixo" nas praias propicia e estimula a conscientização para a manutenção da limpeza.
Foi importante perceber através das reações de minha filha Andrea que outros fatores foram levantados na ação além da preservação ambiental e coleta seletiva: a cidadania e a preocupação social com a comunidade: Precisamos colocar em prática aquilo que acreditamos.
Recolher o lixo em si não significa apenas uma ação, este tipo de postura traz, pelo menos, três lições para as crianças: a necessidade de preservação de recursos naturais, a importância da coleta de lixo para a preservação do meio ambiente, e o impacto que estas ações causarão para a vida das gerações futuras.
Me sinto feliz e orgulhoso ao ver que minha filha refletiu sobre a relação entre uma ação individual e a sua respectiva incidência no grupo social. Ir à praia para essa ação coletiva também serviu de incentivo para que os frequentadores do local fiquem atentos à necessidade de cada um ser responsável por fazer sua parte e cuidar da natureza.

This is the second time we participate on the beach clean-up initiative, and we were really looking forward to it. It was curious to see how excited João Pedro was the day before the event, so much so that we were the first ones to arrive!
It was evident how the first event back in 2016 helped shape João's environmental-friendly mindset - one of these days we were in Búzios for the weekend and when we were about to leave the beach, out of nothing João started to collect not only our garbage, but also the garbage left by other people. He was shocked by the amount of trash left behind by other beach-goers - "how can people do that?", he asked. So how could we miss the second event?!
Strategy in place and water bottles filled, off we went to collect as much garbage as possible in 2 hours. It was rewarding to see some curious people asking what we were doing, and after our explanation, praising the initiative and giving us support to keep going... So I think we managed to spread the message! Another interesting reflection was that João realized himself how hard it was to walk on the soft sand, under the sun, and carrying some weight - this lead us to a very edifying discussion about how tough it must be for the beach vendors that have sustain their families with such a hard work...
The beach clean-up is an extremely fun and educational initiative, that provides the perfect set-up to build a sense of stewardship for planet earth in the minds of our little ones - and sometimes in the big ones too! Looking forward to the next event!
