She loves frozen lemonades!

Your favorite things are?
Writer/Book: I could never pick just one!  I tend to prefer fiction over non-fiction, contemporary works over the classics, American literature over British literature, and young adult literature over adult works.  That being said, some of my all time favorites include: Grapes of Wrath, the Harry Potter Series, and Little Women.  Some recent favorites include: Wonder and To Kill a Mockingbird.

Film: Forrest Gump or Pitch Perfect

Word: "Home."  I used to believe that home was a single place--the house that I lived in.  In the past few years, I've come to realize that, for me, home is less about a building or geographical place, and more about the people I share it with and the memories I make there.  I'm lucky to have moved around a bit and have several wonderful places to call home--Illinois, Colorado, and Rio.

City: Overall, I don't really care for cities, but Rio is definitely the exception!

Preferred musical group/band, meal/drink?

I'll listen to almost anything, but my favorite genres are American country and alternative.

Tough call!  There's two Italian fast food chains in the Chicago area that often combine into a single restaurant: Portillo's/Barnelli's.  They have the best chicken chopped salad, delicious garlic bread, and the most amazing chocolate cake!  There's also an awesome Mexican fast food chain in the States called Chipotle.  I love their cilantro-lime rice, pico de gallo, and guacamole! If it's frozen or fruity, count me in!  Frozen lemonades, Icees, Cherry 7-Up, fresh fruit juice, Guaraná...

Do you do (any) sports?
This past year, I learned how to indoor rock climb.  I hear there are a few climbing gyms in Botafogo, so I need to make some climbing friends in Rio!  Eventually I'd like to learn to outdoor climb too.  I also enjoy hiking, running, biking, and swimming.

The best of Brazil?
I love nature, and Rio combines the best of all worlds--ocean, beaches, and mountains!  Plus, it doesn't snow in Rio!

The worst of USA?
I'm currently wishing that learning foreign languages was more of a priority in the U.S.

OLMatters: Tell us something we do not know about you:
KS: I decided that I wanted to be a teacher when I was a sophomore in high school.  Everyone said that I would change my mind when I got to university, but I didn't.  However, teaching wasn't always my ambition.  I have always loved animals, and I distinctly remember five-year-old me telling my kindergarten teacher that I wanted to be a Dalmatian (as in Disney's 101 Dalmatians) when I grew up.  Embarrassing!  Later, I decided that I wanted to be a veterinarian, then a journalist, and finally, an English teacher!  I'm pretty happy with my final choice!
