7th-grade science students did an activity with Ms. Gresh in which they built their own edible “sanitary landfill” to explore the topic of waste disposal. Students previously learned how solid waste is disposed of but deepened their knowledge of the most common method of disposal. The students learned how sanitary landfills are constructed to prevent pollution and the potential problems of trash disposal into landfills. All this was achieved in a fun, hands-on activity that ended with a tasty treat!
