EMBRAPA

The Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation

Seventh graders had the unique opportunity to visit EMPRAPA on November 24, 2017. Students were able to watch an amusing and interactive lecture about the diversity of Brazilian soils and methods of soil conservation and restoration. They were even able to process some leaf litter to observe (and touch!) its specific invertebrate fauna (worms, spiders, beetles).

Dr. Capeche, our chaperone, was very passionate and showed them around the campus, visiting their laboratories, talking about their compost "factory" and garden, and explaining about the importance of sustainability. At the end of the field trip, students were aware of their role and mission to help make the planet greener. Our school literally left our mark there, by students fingerprinting tree branches using soil paint!
