KNOWLEDGE  BOWL

Knowledge Bowl was certainly a surprising and amazing experience. Firstly, I didn't expect to go. So when I did find out I was, I became extremely eager and nervous at the same time.

When we arrived there, we went straight to the host school (ISC) and we were amazed. It was huge, and featured amazing classrooms, an arena with a gym and a cool middle school playground (although unfortunately we weren’t allowed to play in it). We hung out for a few hours in the library and the high school lounge and then left for our host’s house. The other girls and I stayed at the school director’s house, which was a very nice experience. He and his family were very friendly, and we had our own pool house with a fridge full of sweets and snacks (which was great). The next day, it was time for the competition. Our first game was at the auditorium against the host school. I could tell that my teammates were very nervous, which lead to our team loosing.

However, throughout the day, we were able to have 3 victories, which made us all very happy but also tired. Although I was on the bench, I was still extremely anxious during the games. That night our hosts took us out for sushi, along with some other EAC boys who were friendly, which was nice for us to relax.

The next day we had one more game against Chapel Hill, before the semi-finals. We lost it, but for the first time in OLM’s history we were in the semi-finals. Our semi-final was with the same school to which we had lost in the first game, ISC. Despite that, we were able to do much better and win the game for some time, only losing in the final questions for 19x22. We ended in 4th place, with a feeling of victory in us. After the awards it was time for us to go to the airport, but not before paying a visit to the middle school playground.

Teachers X Students

Overall, Knowledge Bowl was an amazingly unique experience. Not only was it a chance for us to grow and learn, but it was a chance for us to have fun. We had the chance to visit ISC, meet people from other schools, and I got to know my fellow teammates better.

It is certainly a memory that I will take beyond my years in OLM.
