Saint Augustine of Hippo

On Monday, August 28th, the Catholic Church celebrated the life of Saint Augustine of Hippo, a North African educator and philosopher who became one of Christianity’s most influential saints. Since the seniors have been reading parts of Saint Augustine’s Confessions in Philosophy class, I invited a friend and scholar, Bishop Eduardo Grillo of the Anglican Church in Brazil, to speak to them about Saint Augustine’s importance to the church and his message to young people. Bishop Eduardo spoke about Augustine’s restlessness and his constant search for meaning. He said Augustine, like all of us, took a few wrong turns in life. Even after his spiritual conversion, Augustine was never completely free of desires or absolutely certain of being on the right path.

Quite a refreshing testimony!
