NHSMUN 2014

National High School Model United Nations

The day has come! We've finally arrived at the Big Apple, a little too early but no problem. Our first stop was at the hotel so that we could drop our luggage in the storage room, and then we set out for lunch at Tony's. The afternoon was based on complaining that we were tired and on getting to know the area around our hotel (Hilton Midtown, 6th Avenue). Finally, at around 3pm, we were back at the hotel and ready to check in. As soon as we got to our rooms, we got our things organized and later went to sleep because we were exhausted and on the next day we had to wake up early.

Monday, March 3rd: waking up early for a day based on... shopping! We went to the Jersey Gardens outlet at 9 am and left at 3 pm. We had a little time free in the afternoon and at 5pm we met and the group went to Madame Tussauds Wax Museum.

Tuesday, March 4th: the morning was reserved for a visit to Fordham University, where we all had lunch after the visit. In the afternoon we went to the Museum of Natural History and afterwards most students went to the Red Lobster restaurant to have dinner.

Wednesday, March 5th: we went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art until 1pm, and after that we had lunch and began to prepare for the opening ceremony and our first committee session that night.

Thursday, March 6th: We all went to meet the ambassador of Estonia’s Permanent Mission to the UN in the morning and during the afternoon and night we were representing Estonia in our respective committees.

Friday, March 7th: committees in the morning and all afternoon. At night we had the Delegate Dance. It was a great experience to see the difference between Brazilian and American parties.

Saturday, March 8th: The closing ceremony was held at the UN, despite the General Assembly undergoing renovation. We were assigned to the first session that took around an hour and a half. After the closing ceremony we headed for our last lunch at Tony's. At night we went to see a wonderful Broadway play: Matilda. In this play most of the characters are kids and this really caught our attention.

Sunday, March 9th: Early in the morning we went to the Central Park where some of us walked around and some even got the chance to go ice skating. At 3pm we checked out from the hotel, left to the airport to catch our flight, and returned to Rio after a very busy but enriching experience.

Okay, I need to select clothes for 8 days that will be extremely cold. My mind is completely full

of thoughts, doubts, and over all, anxiety.

Finally it's the day of our trip to NY - we fly to NY today, March 1, and return on March 10th - the problem is that not even my luggage is ready, but tonight there are carnival "blocos" so, I need to run and get my things done!

After a couple of hours thinking and overthinking,

I am ready, tomorrow is New York day! ;)
