ABOUT US

Nowadays, we take the school’s newspaper, OLMatters, for granted. We simply expect the regular updates regarding school news, academics, sports, and events. However, have you ever stopped to think about how it all began?

It all started nine years ago, when a group of four teachers, all from different areas, got together and started thinking about the creation of a school newspaper. Mr. Majka, Ms. Menezes, Ms. Souza and Ms. Xavier  wanted to find a way to keep the OLM community well-informed about the various student achievements and accomplishments, creating a greater sense of school pride.

The first issue of the tabloid-sized school journal was well-received and got a lot of positive feedback from all. However, there was a big problem – by the time that the newspaper was ready, the news included in it had already become old. In order to resolve the issue, an online edition of OLMatters was developed and implemented, along with the printed one.

Eventually, the printed version ceased to exist, and the school newspaper as we know it today was born. Another advantage to having an online newspaper is that old editions and pictures can be saved on the website, preserving the school’s rich history. As technology developed further over the years, the OLMatters website became outdated. The students needed a more dynamic way to get involved with the newspaper, therefore prompting the creation of the newest version by the extremely creative OLMatters team.

The new OLMatters includes school related videos, articles written by OLM students themselves, the lunch menu, pictures, and many other interesting features waiting to be explored by all.

If you have any interesting stories or beautiful pictures that you would like to share with the school community, please send them to us through the comments section in the new website or speak to any one of us. You can be sure that we will look at all submissions and do our best to include all of them.

We’re looking forward to your feedback!
