STUDENT TEACHERS

2nd SEMESTER - 2013-2014

Breanna Wisnor

Ola! My name is Breanna Wisnor. I am a student teacher from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. In May, I will be receiving my degree in Early Childhood Education. I feel blessed to have been selected for the opportunity to complete my student teaching internship in Rio de Janeiro. I am very lucky to be working and learning alongside Ms. Weber in first grade this semester. I have had a wonderful time so far and know I still have much to learn and experience.Having originally began my college career as a dance major, I have a strong passion for dance, especially ballet. I also enjoy reading and writing poetry. Of course, I also love working with children. They always know how to make each day a happy one. Back in Ohio, I have volunteered for the Child Development Center and tutored young children in math and reading. I have been overwhelmed by the kindness and helpfulness of the OLM staff so far. The staff here is absolutely amazing and incredibly knowledgeable. I am confident that this experience will lead me to become the best professional educator I can be. I am most looking forward to sharing my Catholic faith with my colleagues and students, teaching and learning in Ms. Weber’s first grade classroom and taking advantage of all that the beautiful Rio de Janeiro has to offer. From the food to the scenery and the language to the people, my experience so far has been nothing short of outstanding. I cannot wait to see what the next two months bring!

Beth Langenderfer

Hello! My name is Beth Langenderfer, and I have the pleasure of teaching alongside Mr. Ajuz for 5th grade math and science. I am finishing my B.S. in middle childhood education through Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. I want to be a teacher because I believe teachers truly shape and change the world! I have been blessed with an array of unique experiences that have helped me gain understanding and knowledge for my professional career. I have coached volleyball and track teams, taught students how to swim and rock climb, interned with a school program centered around expeditionary learning, taught leadership skills to students from all over the world, led a group of students backpacking on the Appalachian Trail, rode my bicycle for two months to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis, and am learning something new each day here at OLM! I already know that sharing these few months with students and faculty at OLM is one of the greatest opportunities thus far in my professional career. Every person I have conversed with has been nothing but gracious and welcoming. OLM provides amazing opportunities to its students and has inspiring teamwork throughout the school. I want to take in as much as I possibly can of OLM and Brazil altogether! I am greatly looking forward to helping the 5th graders grow as individuals and students. Thank you for this amazing opportunity OLM! It is greatly appreciated!

Danielle Danaher

Olá! My name is Danielle Danaher. I’ve come all the way from a small town called Saint Marys, Ohio to teach with Ms. Flávia Malouk’s Senior Kindergarten class. I attend college at Bowling Green State University. My major is Early Childhood Education for grades Pre-K through 3rd. At school I’m involved in the learning community, Educators in Context and Community, and a tutor in the library. Some of my other interests include music, singing, eating dolce de leche, and art. Thus far, my experience in Brazil has been nothing short of wonderful. I’m enjoying the local food, music, traditions, language, and people. This is my first time leaving the United States and seeing the ocean! The staff and students at OLM have been so welcoming that I can already sense how difficult it will be to leave. I can’t thank the school enough for allowing me to experience this once in a lifetime opportunity. I’m excited to teach my future students about this beautiful country, Portuguese words, Carnaval, and appreciation and respect for diverse cultures around the world.

Matt Macaluso

Hello! My name is Matt Macaluso, and I am student teaching alongside Mr. Portilho and Mr. Zsolt in the high school Physics classes this quarter. I am completing my B.S. in Physics and B.A. in Secondary Education at Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois, which is about 50 km from the city of Chicago. I absolutely love physics, but in my free time I spend a lot of time researching all sciences, especially zoology (My current area of interest is snakes and other reptiles). I also like to play guitar and listen to music of various styles from classic rock to jazz to classical. Travelling to Brazil has provided the opportunity to accomplish a lot of firsts for me, including the first time that I’ve left the U.S., the first time I’ve ever traveled by airplane, and the first time that I’ve ever seen mountains. In my first month of student teaching at OLM, I have been incredibly grateful for the welcoming and kind family made up of the teachers, staff, and student body. Every day, I continue to learn more and more about the beautiful culture of the Cariocas. I am excited to continue working with the students and exploring Brasil! To the students, teachers, administration, staff, and everyone who have made and will make my experience what it is, muito obrigado!
