I WANT MY KIDS TO BE OLM STUDENTS

I spent the last 16 years of my life sharing and creating great moments with friends and teachers and had the most amazing opportunities that will be kept forever in my heart. I got to be a coordinator in “Estenda a Sua Mão” (Community Service Project); delegate at the NHSMUN (an international event that gathers students from all over the world to debate various global issues);athlete on the basketball team, and part of so many other activities. OLM set my path to an excellent private college.

Now, I'm learning how to be more independent and went back to being a freshman, which I was not accustomed to anymore, after being a high school senior. I had a whole week of what they call "trote" (pranks). If anyone thinks that what seniors in takeovers do are harsh "pranks", think twice because you have no idea of what awaits you in college. Nonetheless, throughout this week you get to meet your seniors and your classmates and it’s all good. College provides you a whole new and different experience. The dynamics are much more flexible, and if you’re passing or failing it is entirely up to you.

Coming back to OLM and visiting it, I felt like I hadn’t been there for months. Talking to the teachers you remember the “old days” in class, the basketball games and all those experiences that you underwent throughout pre-nursery, elementary, middle school, and finally high school.

Those days are over… and the weird thing is that your life is just beginning, even though it seems like you have lived a whole lot already. Now, I can’t help thinking: “I want my kids to be OLM students”.

I wrote a couple of times for OLMatters as a student, but now, writing as alumni, it feels completely different!

I was part of the first pre-nursery class of OLM and spent the last 16 years of my life in this amazing school.

I have just begun college at IBMEC studying International Relations. In my mind, however, Ikeep thinking: "It’s not OLM anymore and now I'm on my own". My mom does not wake me up every morning anymore and I have to catch crowded buses everyday during rush hour.
Sometimes we take for granted what we have. I do realize that we students are always complaining of every little thing in school. But as an alumna, I must say OLM provides you the feeling of being part of a big family, gives you what bigger schools and college can't give you. The teachers know your name and who you are, and you get to know them as well.
