Meet the Teacher

Hi O.L.M.
My name is Bryan Sanders. I am a Social Studies teacher from Los Angeles, California. I earned my B.A. in History and a Social Studies teaching credential at California State University Northridge.
After teaching in Los Angeles, I set off on what was meant to be a one year adventure in Japan. I fell in love with the country and the people and resumed teaching in Tokyo at the very traditional KEIKA Gakuen (Japanese film director Akiro Kurosawa's alma mater) and later as the Social Studies department chair at KAIS International School.
Sometime in between those nearly four years, I met my Brazilian wife, Catarina, while she was stationed in Tokyo as the Asian correspondent for TV Record. Together we have a rambunctious one year old, a huge LP collection, and a love for traveling.
Following Japan, we changed course to São Paulo where I taught Literature and Speech at Colegio Dante Alighieri and after we moved to Rio, I wrote about Brazilian cuisine for The Rio Times. Now that we are in Rio we are really enjoying it.
In my free time I make short films, read, go to the cinema, collect old vinyl records, ride bicycles, play bike polo and spend time with my family.
Thank you for such a warm welcome, I look forward to meeting you as the semester progresses.
Sincerely,
Bryan Sanders
