On Thursday, March 6th, the first and fifth grade students celebrated the belated birthday of the wonderfully talented Dr. Seuss.
After singing happy birthday, the students partner read some of his books. They were then challenged to add an additional page to the book they were reading. Through this collaboration, the students were able to put themselves in this classic authors’ shoes.
Dr. Seuss inspired many writers with his books such as P.D. Eastman and Robert Lopshire to contribute to today’s collection of children’s books. Just like Dr. Seuss, our very own fifth grade students of OLM inspired the up-and-coming first grade class. The fifth graders patiently read with the younger students while modeling fluency and comprehension. They took the time to talk about what different words meant and repeated tough pronunciations for the students. The creative and inspiring collaboration seen would have surely made Dr. Seuss proud that he is still making an impact even in today’s 21st century.
It just goes to show us all that you never know how far your impact will go, from friends to neighbors, from schools to nations, and even our fifth graders to our first graders.
Oh the places our OLM students will go thanks to Dr. Seuss.
