OLM GIN Project
Our Lady of Mercy School takes great pride in pioneering its first participation in the Global Issues Network Conference sponsored by the Association of American Schools in Brazil to be held in Quito, Equador, during the month of October.
OLM will be represented in Quito by four middle and two high school students, and two teachers: Dr. Carla Mendes and Ms. Beth Freire.
Special recognition goes to Dr. Carla Mendes who spearheaded this year´s conference debut project: Building a Home with all Recycled Materials. The construction of the "100% Ecological Home" will take place first on the OLM school grounds to kick off this project prior to OLM´s trip to Quito.
To everyone at OLM who helped by contributing materials from home, for participating in the phase of development of the project´s ideas, and in the house construction, thank you and huge congratulations! We wish you great success in Quito!

Six students from 7-12 grades will represent the school’s team in this international academic event, which will be held in the American School of Quito, Ecuador, in October 18-20, 2013. For the past six months, students and staff have been engaged in the project “Ecological Homes”, with the objective of building life-size houses and furniture from recyclable material. This project bridges environmental concern and action gap, empowering ordinary citizens to take effective, long-term action in pursuit of healthy and sustainable lifestyles. Ecological houses are an environmentally friendly alternative to fight against social and ecological issues, such as poverty, pollution, ecosystem loss, natural disasters and infectious diseases.
