Doing good out of love is an important characteristic of an OLM graduate.

Walkathon Against Cancer

On Sunday morning, March 8, I woke up excited; it was my first walkathon since I entered school. I asked my father to drop me at Parque dos Patins, in Lagoa, at 09:45 a.m.. There were many families, kids, elders, everybody fighting for the cure of cancer. 40 minutes after I arrived, we started the walk. It was really hot, 30 degrees Celsius, and we had to walk 7 km. My friends and I spent the two hours walking, talking, drinking coconut water and enjoying the view.

At the end of the walkathon, everybody was extremely tired, but also happy for doing some exercise and for helping many people that cannot afford for treatments. I know that I will never forget this amazing experience, and that, next year, I’ll walk again.

CHRISTMAS PARTY

SONHAR ACORDADO” NGO

My dream came true!!! For years, I have wanted to be a volunteer at the “Sonhar Acordado” NGO and finally that day came.  What made me truly happy was that my son André, my dear friend Ms. Beth Freire, and her daughter Larissa were all able to join the Christmas Party as well.  This was a gathering that included over 1,000 children from various institutions in Rio de Janeiro and 1,000 volunteers from numerous neighborhoods in RJ.  From 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., all children had the chance to have fun with their designated big brother / sister who gave them 100 % attention and love. During the day, it was filled with fun and entertainment including activities like music, magic, painting, arts & crafts, soccer, outdoor games, plays, and at the end, Santa Claus came bearing gifts. It was positively intense for all!

The most impressive part was to see so many young people dedicating their time and effort to the children who will never forget the experience.  This November 30th will never be forgotten by children or the volunteers. The real spirit of the Christmas Season is truly alive when one is able to see all the good that was accomplished for the ones most loved by the Master Jesus Christ. In Luke 18:16, we read:  Then Jesus called for the children and said to the disciples, "Let the children come to me. Don't stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children."

In 2015, the “Dia do Sonho”, usually in June or July, will be an opportunity for those who wish to experience a sense of fraternity. If you are interested, be attentive!
