Every year PUC hosts hundreds of high school students on campus to give them a taste of college life and the opportunity to learn more about the university programs. Here is the report of Ana Luiza Lima, one of our sophomores, who took advantage of this event on April 10.

Cristina Machado - High School Guidance

The first course lecture I attended was Direito Penal. Ana Carolina, Isabella, Mylena, Lorena and I waited in a long line of people, since the maximum capacity was of 500 people and everyone seemed to want to go to this course. Thankfully, we were able to enter and find a good place to sit without much struggle. Throughout the course lecture the professor talked about the three types of police, civil, military and federal and their importance. Even though the course was very interesting, I saw that this wasn’t what I wanted to do as a profession.

The next course lecture Ana Carol and I attended was Cinema with Professor José. He talked about his profession and how the movies are produced. He focused a good part of his speech on talking about documentaries and how they differ from fiction movies. In fiction movies the characters need to play and pretend to be someone they are not, while in documentaries the character is real and is being herself. He talked about the movies in the past and the movies nowadays and how they differ from each other, because of the technology and all of that. He also spoke about the course in PUC and what would we learn during it, which includes history of cinema, theory and criticism.

The third course we attended was Digital Media, and I can definitely say that this was my favorite one. The course lecture was very dynamic and the teacher explained his profession very well. I actually wanted to attend the fashion course, however, since they had reached their maximum capacity I went to this one. The professor showed us amazing projects from different students and also talked about what we would be doing during the 4 years if we were to take the course at PUC. I think what made me like this course so much was the fact that he said that digital media does connect a lot with the other 3 arts courses, fashion being one of them, so this made me really excited.

The last course Isabella, Ana Carol and I attended was Social Work. It was a very interesting course and I actually learned what the job of a social worker in English. A social worker is someone who works in order to help people recognize and have access to their rights. I find this a very interesting job because there are a lot of people that are struggling in life because they don’t know their rights. He also told us the difference between social work, which is the profession, a social worker, which is the professional, social assistence, which is the public policy, and assistencialism, which is when you help someone and expect something back. All of this made me realize how important this job is.

Over all I enjoyed a lot Puc por uma dia. It made me have a little taste of what college life is like and what I want to do for my future. I hope next year I’ll be able to go there again and try different courses.
