Student Teachers - 2nd Semester 2014_2015

Hello, OLM!  Thank you for making me feel so welcome in this beautiful school and city.  Either everyone is very nice or everyone has mistaken me for Mr. Sanders’ brother… I think both are true.

I applied to do my student teaching at OLM as soon as I found out about the opportunity.  I decided to become a teacher because I love to learn and this school offers a unique experience.

Back home, near Chicago, there was a foot of snow on the ground and I felt like a tiger pacing around in a (very cold) cage.  I’m excited to do things outdoors like play basketball and volleyball.  Hiking my way to a waterfall, swimming in the ocean and drinking from a fresh coconut are on my list of things to do in the next few weeks.

What else should I do?  Where should I go? I want to make the most of my time here and need your help.

Hello everyone!

My name is Magdalena Jazowski and I will be student teaching in Ms. D'Altério's 5th grade classroom until May 12th, 2015. I am studying Elementary Education and Spanish at Lewis University, located in Romeoville, Illinois, and am currently enrolled as a senior.

Teaching and working with children has always been a joy to me! I have worked for the park district in my hometown in different programs that all involve children. I also worked for St. John Paul II Polish School as a substitute in the 4th grade classroom, as an aide in the Kindergarten classroom, and as a teacher in a preschool setting. I enjoy volunteering as a catechist in the 2nd grade classroom.

In my spare time, I love to read historical fiction books, make DIY crafts, and eat! I am so happy with my decision to come here and am beyond excited to start this journey. I know that I will be learning a lot during my experience here in Rio and cannot wait to see how the students of OLM help me grow as a future educator. I am honored to be spending my capstone experience student teaching abroad here at Our Lady of Mercy!

Hello, OLM!

Thank you so much to everyone for being so warm and welcoming! I can tell that my experience here will be full of incredible connections with everyone from the OLM community.

I knew I wanted to student teach at OLM the second I heard about the opportunity. I love to explore and experience new things. Rio de Janeiro is absolutely the right place to do both of those things. I’ll be spending my time with Ms. Jucá in 2nd Grade B. I have a great deal of experience in elementary school classrooms in the United States. Most of my time has been spent in kindergarten classrooms so I’m excited to experience something new in 2nd grade!

I love to read, listen to music, eat and I absolutely love watching movies. When I was in 2nd grade I loved Roald Dahl and Dr. Seuss books. I’m so glad to be spending my time here in Rio at OLM and I can’t wait to enjoy the next couple months with my students!

Hello, OLM!!!

First, I’d like to thank-you for this wonderful opportunity and experience. Everyone here has made me feel welcomed, as if I was home. I am honored to do my student teaching with Rosana Paes or Ms. Paes. I will be teaching the 9th as well as the 11th grade students, in the subjects of World History, as well as U.S. History.

A little bit about myself is one I am from OHIO!! I did my methods and training at a small village back home, by the name of Holgate. I currently go to the University of Bowling Green State University. When looking into my hobbies I love reading, meeting new people, and sports anywhere from (Futbol, American Football, Basketball, and Baseball). I love to be outdoors and do activities such as go to the beach, hiking, swimming, and just plain out relaxing in the sun.

When looking into why I want to teach, one is I love the connection and relationship you build with your students. I love to try and motivate people, and push them to the next level in which they all feel like champions. I am looking forward to my learning experience as well as meeting the students at OLM!!! Thanks for having me and giving me this wonderful opportunity.
