Doing good by making Arts ...

Thaís Silvestre & 3rd grade

This year, in celebration of the 450th anniversary of Rio de Janeiro, the 3rd graders studied José Datrino, known as Profeta Gentileza. They have taken part in several activities in order to better understand his life, including acting in a play, practicing his unique letter type, listening and discussing Marisa's Monte song about Profeta Gentileza, and writing down their own kind sentences. But we also know that it is not only with words that we make kindness. That's where the Boomerang Project connected with “Gentileza Gera Gentileza,” Datrino’s famous sentence.

The kids sat down together to come up with a script of good and kind things that they could do to each other in their daily lives. A variety of themes came along, from helping someone pick something off the floor, to anti bullying actions. Third graders used their iPads and went around the school to film the scenes that they had planned beforehand.

They have really enjoyed filming and participating in the scenes, and learned that being kind and gentle means that other people will act the same way toward them. You can watch the final result in the videos bellow!

“Do to others as you would have them do to you.” Luke 6:31
