“Viva a Carioquice” – 450th anniversary of the city of

São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro

On March 28, 2015, Our Lady of Mercy School had its annual International Festival. This has been a yearly event since 2002, and began so that we could share differences and learn about cultures other than our own. This year, the International Festival highlighted the different countries that were represented by the families in our community: Brazil, USA, Vatican, Argentina, Netherlands, Ecuador, Portugal, Uruguay, Lebanon, Israel and Rio de Janeiro.  Each booth had educational information about the country which could include  maps, pictures, typical clothing/costumes, music, and bite sized samples of typical foods.

The 2015 International Festival marked the 450th anniversary of the City of Rio de Janeiro, therefore, teachers and students dedicated their time to honor the “wonderful City”. There were singing performances as well as a workshop on “samba school instruments”. We could also count on the presentation of the OLMobility 2.0, the school project whose objective is to bring awareness to the risky behaviors that may cause lethal accidents and the beautiful Elementary exposition of the material studied and prepared about water and its use.

The OLM 2015 International Festival will always be an event to remember!!
